Public hearings to strengthen the E.P.A begin Thursday.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will hold a full committee hearing entitled, A Fair Share for All: Pay Equity in the New American Workplace. The legislation is in reaction to the Supreme Court's Ledbetter decision was the Paycheck Fairness Act, which passed the House in August of 2008 . The bill was not passed by the Senate at that time, but it's back on the agenda now.

While the Ledbetter Act focused on the statute of limitations and reversing the Supreme Court's decision, the Paycheck Fairness Act focuses on amending the Equal Pay act and providing greater remedies for gender pay discrimination.
