Ok, let me explain this, a couple of contracts ago with my company they put in wording in the contract that says thru the last day of the contract ( in this case sept 30th) they are to give step increases on the anniversary date of the employee. All the previous contracts they had continued giving these increases even after the contract was up and in negotiations. However this year they halted all increases after sept 30th. But they say that we are running under the rules of the old ...

I wanted to take a moment to share with everyone, here on this board, the situation I am currently dealing with. Back in July I had a union business agent ("BA") come out to the job site because of a workplace issue. The employer discharged me only hours later. The BA did nothing about this and I have filed an unfair labor practice against the company. The only problem is I don't have very good evidence to prove that I was terminated for engaging in union activity. I know the other ...

Union leader arrested, charged with bribery

WASHINGTON — The president of a national railroad employees union was arrested at his Ohio home on Tuesday and charged with bribery.

Edward Rodzwicz, who heads the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, is accused of soliciting and accepting $20,000 in bribes from a St. Louis lawyer. In exchange, prosecutors say, Rodzwicz allowed the lawyer to remain on a list of attorneys approved to handle injury cases for union members.

Long story short,

Its a union shop and we(the employees) and the company are governed by a set of rules and policies in a labor contract. I told my immediate supervisor that I wasn't going to do something (which many of us do as an empty threat to indicate we're upset at something which we eventually do anyway). He went to get his boss (the shift supervisor). I got into an argument with him and he told me to leave. "I'm telling you to leave the company premises!" I have a witness ...

I know the definition of this term, but how if necessary does one hold a union accountable for failing in its duties. Such as refusing to hear a grievance where an employee believed that he/she was denied his/her right to representation during a meeting that he/she reasonably believed could lead to disciplinary action, or for not taking on a case where the company engaged in an adverse action for the employees invocation of his/her union rights as outlined in the CBA? I think I have a claim against an employer, though i'm having a hard time finding an Attorny to take the case. Maybe someone here can tell me why.

I was hired by a Metro area Railroad as an Ironworker. After being employed for a few weeks I was offered a job as a driver of a commercial sized welding truck. The requirements for the job were a CDL and a valid Medical examiners certificate.

The company doctor provided the certificate. I went to Manhattan for the appointment. ...
